Boars Head Bistro, Coffee Shop & Boutique Hotel in Sunderland East End celebrates upcoming Sunderland Events and is at the heart of the Tall Ships Race Sunderland 2018, 11th -14th July.

The Boars Head has been here since 1724, overlooking one of the most interesting, history filled rivers of the world, and it has some of the most beautiful views in the City of Sunderland. Recently renovated to reflect Old Sunderland's history, once dubbed "the largest shipbuilding town in the world" with shipbuilding dating back to 1346.

It is where Christianity in the UK started 674 AD, Glass-making in England started, Joseph Swan invented the light bulb, The Miners lamp was invented here, The oldest purpose-built Masonic Temple in the World is right here in Sunderland East End and  Laurel & Hardy were regulars at the Boars Head .

The Boars Head Bar is open all night, or continental style breakfast in our Residents only kitchen, at any time of the morning should you want to leave early. We have an AMAZING outdoor patio overlooking the river. A huge 10,000 ton ship or even an historic tall sailing ship could be tied up 50 metres away, and fishing boats returning with their catch mooring at the fish quay 200 metres away.

The City Centre, Empire Theatre, The National Glass Centre, Roker & Seaburn and the Stadium of light are all within a 10 to 15 minute walk from us, The Metro system is in the City Centre. Newcastle, The Metro Centre, Washington Wildlife Park, Holy Island and Washington Old Hall are all within easy driving or commuting distance.

We can even host a small intimate wedding for up to 30 guests, with the ceremony carried out on the outside terrace overlooking the beautiful River Wear, then hold the reception in our conservatory elevated high over the River Wear.
